Dr Amy Wruck – Integrative and Functional Medicine Practitioner
Alongside raising my four sons, I completed my Medical Degree and graduated from the University of Notre Dame, Fremantle in 2016. Following on from medical school, I worked across various public and private hospitals in Western Australia and South-East Queensland. My clinical experience spans specialties such as General Medicine, General Surgery, Infectious Diseases, Orthopaedics, Geriatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Acute Surgery, Acute Medicine, Renal Medicine, Palliative Care, Emergency Medicine, Mental Health, Oncology and Occupational Medicine. Prior to my medical training, I earned a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy and a Bachelor of Science, equipping me with a diverse perspective on health and wellbeing.
My passion lies in understanding the interplay between diet, lifestyle, and environmental factors in disease manifestation and overall health. With a multifaceted approach, my qualifications enable me to integrate science-based natural medicine with evidence-based conventional care. This integrative and functional medicine approach allows for utilisation of various treatment modalities including, nutritional medicine, herbal medicine, hormonal health, stress management, anti-ageing medicine, lifestyle counselling and more, to be considered in the treatment of disease. I will collaborate with other health professionals as required to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Journey to Functional Medicine
From a young age, I developed a deep passion for science and fascination with the human body and its intricate functions. After earning my Medical Degree in 2016, I gained invaluable clinical experience that deepened my understanding of the biopsychosocial effects of disease and their significant impact on a person’s quality of life. This experience fuelled my motivation to explore the root causes of disease and to identify effective strategies for prevention, treatment and management of complex health conditions.
Driven by a desire to understand the underlying factors contributing to my patients’ symptoms, I pursued further studies in Integrative and Functional Medicine. I actively sought mentorship and advanced training from leading experts in the field, equipping myself with the knowledge and skills to provide comprehensive, patient-centred care.
To further my study in this field I am also undertaking further studies to obtain my Fellowship of the Australasian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine (ACNEM).
Mission to Help Others
I am dedicated to improving my patients’ health and wellbeing. I employ a calm and compassionate style, emphasising a whole-person approach that considers physical, mental, emotional and sometimes spiritual health. My goal is to educate and engage patients in their health journeys, creating tailored treatment plans based on individual needs.
I am committed to offering a comprehensive approach that merges my medical expertise in diagnosis, disease management, and treatment with evidence-based natural medicine. With a focus on disease prevention, I employ an Integrative and Functional Medicine framework, utilising a range of general pathology and specialised functional tests. This enables me to thoroughly investigate functional, biochemical, nutritional, metabolic, and hormonal issues as needed, ensuring a tailored and effective treatment plan for each patient.
