Lucia Ferguson – NP
Nurse Practitioner and Functional Medicine Practitioner,

My Name is Lucia Ferguson and I am a Nurse Practitioner and Functional Medicine Practitioner.

I specialise in women’s health, menopause, mental health, autoimmune disease, Thyroid disorders, fatigue and gut health. I have a passion for integrating nutritional and environmental medicine with allopathic medicine to provide holistic care. I have extensive knowledge, experience and education in integrative care.

I have been a Registered Nurse for 22 years and an endorsed Nurse Practitioner since 2011.
I combine my passion for generalist primary care with an integrative approach to treat chronic disease from a root cause perspective. I love using my skills with assessment, nutrition, nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals (often compounded) as part of my personalised approach to holistic health care.

I have extensive experience with provision of primary care to complex patients in the community including in rural and remote Australia. I have a passion for nutrition, gut-brain, hormonal harmony, mental health, fatigue and autoimmune issues. I am from New Zealand and completed my comprehensive Nursing Degree in Nelson, 2000 and my Masters in Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) in 2011.

  • Evidence based holistic medicine

As a Nurse Practitioner I have both a provider and prescriber number to allow me direct access to the Medicare system. During your care with me I can order pathology testing and refer to medical specialists.  I have access to the Pharmaceuticals Benefit Scheme (PBS) NP Items and am also able to prescribed private compounded personalised medicines targeted to the individual.

I have a passion for holistic and integrative health and aim to work collaboratively with people to achieve their health goals. My approach is to examine the root cause of illness and disease rather than only treat the symptoms. Using the best of western and complementary care I will work with you to identify the links between your nutrition, environment and health. Applying my knowledge of integrative medicine can help to enhance and strengthen your body and mind allowing it to heal.

My most recent experience was setting up a nurse-led clinic at the Alma Street Centre in Fremantle, which specialises in physical health assessment, screening and management of people with complex mental health disorders and co-morbid physical illness. I was recognised for this work in winning an award at the WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards and was a finalist for WA Nurse of the Year in 2015.

Lucia offer’s Medicare rebates on all her in person consultations.

Being a Nurse Practitioner and functional medicine practitioner allows Lucia to be able to formally diagnose disease, put patients on and off pharmaceutical medications if need be, including bioidentical hormones and combine these offerings with her full suite of functional medicine practices and treatments.

The combination of a Nurse Practitioner and Functional Medicine practitioner allows Lucia to work in the same sense as a Functional Medicine Doctor, with the ability to order blood tests, imaging and other relevant testing through Medicare. Advanced Functional Medicine testing is also used on all patients in addition to Medicare funded testing.
